The pendant had been declared as treasure by the local coroner and sent to the British Museum for evaluationgodmanchester-pendant and analysis, both the British Museum and a Cambridge Museum expressed an interest in acquiring it but the Porch Museum felt that such an important find should remain in Godmanchester and be put on display to the public. The pendant was eventually offered for sale and with the assistance of grants from the Town Council, the Community Association and the Huntingdon Local History Society the pendant was purchased.

The pendant weighs just over 6 grams and is 97% silver with a gilded front, it is considered to be either Scandinavian or Germanic imported into early Anglo Saxon England.
